AKRF-Designed Rain Garden Featured in Philadelphia Parks Festival
About Us
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for a rain garden designed by AKRF headlined Philadelphia's Love Your Parks Day. The November 5, 2011 ceremony, attended by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, was the culmination of a detailed engineering design AKRF prepared for a site in Vernon Park. As reported in the Germantown Chronicle, AKRF worked with the Tookany/Tacony Frankford Watershed Partnership in drawing up plans for the garden, located near the Germantown Avenue entrance to the park.
AKRF staff helped with construction planning and management of the garden, preparing a list of required materials, assisting with purchase and transport of materials, coordinating multiple volunteer groups and Department of Parks and Recreation staff, and providing transportation for volunteers to and from the project site. AKRF also provided on-site construction oversight and volunteer coordination services throughout the project construction period.
This work on the rain garden was done along with the development of a stormwater master plan for Vernon Park, and is under a general services contract with the Philadelphia Water Department.
