AKRF is Proud to Support the New York State Climate Action Plan

AKRF helped state agencies and stakeholders formulate the blueprint for action that will reduce state-wide greenhouse gas emissions by 80% below 1990 levels and adapt to future impacts of climate change.

In 2009, New York State Governor Paterson set long-term goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the state to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. The Governor ordered the formation of a Climate Action Council, consisting of heads of State entities, charged with formulating a Climate Action Plan for the State establishing the detailed plan for achieving the greenhouse gas reduction goals. On November 9th, 2010, Governor Paterson released the Climate Action Plan Interim Report.

AKRF is the Climate Action Plan’s technical consultant for the Transportation and Land-Use sector. As part of the consultant team, AKRF is assisting the council and its technical workgroups in the development of the long-term vision and the detailed policies aimed at achieving this aggressive goal, by providing technical expertise, analyses, and evaluation of potential policies. The plan outlines potential actions, requiring dramatic change, transforming the way we make and use energy—maximizing efficiency and make a major shift toward zero-GHG emissions in electricity generation, smart electric transmission and distribution systems, low-carbon buildings, zero-emission vehicles, and increased options for alternative modes of travel and land use.
