AIR QUALITY
AKRF is known for developing innovative methodologies
to address unique project conditions, no matter how
large or small the project. We grasp the big picture
as well as the technical details of air quality projects.
Our experience includes air quality analysis related
to construction, transportation, urban development,
industrial emissions, and such municipal projects
as landfills and sewage plants. And we helped write
the book on AQ for New York City by preparing the
air quality methodology for the City Environmental
Quality Review (CEQR) Technical Manual and its
recent update.

AKRF uses advanced modeling
techniques to simulate how ambient pollutants
disperse and react in the atmosphere. We analyze
air quality impacts from vehicular emissions for
the most complex roadway configurations in urban
areas. AKRF also uses the latest EPA-approved
dispersion models to predict ambient concentrations
of air contaminants in support of air permits,
EISs, health risk assessments, and other regulatory
requirements. |

Air quality assessments required
by the National Environmental Policy Act, the
New York State Environmental Quality Review Act,
and New York City Environmental Quality Review
are typical assignments for AKRF. Our expertise
also includes preparing applications for local
and state air permits, Title V operating permits,
and PSD/NSR (prevention of significant deterioration/new
source review) permits under the Clean Air Act.
We also have extensive experience preparing air
emission inventories and other technical studies
that support EISs and air permit applications.
In addition, AKRF prepares technical studies to
determine the short- and long-term health impacts
of toxic air contaminants. |

AKRF designs and implements
air sampling programs for ambient air monitoring
of toxic compounds, odor sampling and assessment
studies, and stack test program oversight. We’ve
performed air monitoring studies for a range of
source types, including solid waste landfills,
hazardous waste sites, and wastewater treatment
plants. |

Selecting appropriate air pollution
control equipment requires careful evaluation
because of the many regulatory, environmental,
and economic implications. AKRF’s in-depth
knowledge of the regulatory mandates for emission
control systems and the technical capabilities
allows us to best advise our clients on their
control system options. |
