AKRF’S HISTORY
On November 1, 1981, a small
start-up called Allee King Rosen & Fleming opened
for business in a loft on West 25th Street in Manhattan.
As one of a very few companies specializing in environmental
impact statements, the firm quickly established itself
as a leader in the field.
As the environmental
review process expanded in the 1980s and 1990s, requiring
more rigorous evaluation in a broader range of technical
areas, the firm expanded with it. Our staff increased
to include specialists in all of technical areas required
under the National Environmental Protection Act, and
new practice areas evolved as well.
AKRF’s Hazardous Materials division, which started
as an outgrowth of the firm’s environmental
practice, now has a life of its own and has overseen
the cleanup for some of the largest projects under
New York State’s new brownfields laws. Likewise,
our site/civil Engineering team supports multi-disciplinary
environmental projects and also handles a broad range
of stand-alone design projects.
Our other technical departments, including Natural
Resources, Air Quality, Economics, and Cultural Resources,
perform specialized studies for a wide array of public
and private clients. These range from advising major
utility companies on Clean Water Act compliance, to
creating economic revitalization plans for small rural
communities.
Over the years, AKRF has also opened regional offices
in the Hudson Valley, Long Island, Baltimore/Washington,
and New Jersey. These offices offer the firm’s
full range of environmental, planning, and engineering
services while meeting the special needs of their
local markets.
Thanks to the talent and commitment of our staff,
AKRF has grown into a highly respected multi-disciplinary
firm with five offices and 200 employees. All of our
practice areas and offices are unified by the firm’s
unmatched expertise in federal, state, and local environmental
regulations, our strategic problem-solving ability,
and our commitment to client satisfaction.
