Prince’s Point, Staten Island, NY
This 23-acre oceanfront site was formerly the nation’s largest dental manufacturer with a complex waste stream— including PCB-containing plastics, lead, mercury, and buried pressurized gas cylinders—leading to its listing as a New York State Superfund site. Muss Development Company retained AKRF to implement an investigation and cleanup. The firm prepared and oversaw a remediation plan consisting of contaminated soil removal, capping the site, and construction of a rock revetment for protection along the coastline. AKRF also prepared the plans and specifications for the relocation and reconstruction of a stream that runs through the site so that the soil contamination in the original stream bed could be safely removed and disposed of. AKRF completed the wetland permitting, floodplain mapping changes, and sediment and erosion control plans while assisting with the road, sewer, and utility design. The site was subsequently removed from the State Superfund list. Planned redevelopment of the site includes construction of over 100 single and two-family homes.
