Alexander Street Master Plan, Yonkers, NY
AKRF has been retained by the City of Yonkers to prepare a Master Plan, Urban Renewal Plan, and GEIS for the 104-acre Alexander Street Urban Renewal Area. As part of the project, AKRF is conducting detailed environmental, visual and cultural resource evaluations to guide the creation of a redevelopment master plan for a mixed-use community collaboratively being prepared by the international design firm, EDAW. The plan also suggests the adaptive reuse of the historic Yonkers City Jail and ADA-related improvements to the Hudson River Museum's Trevor Mansion, a National Register-listed property. The design process aims to encourage pedestrian traffic and use of the two adjacent Metro-North train stations. In addition to a Traffic Impact Study, the firm is assessing the development of a Bus Rapid Transit that would connect the downtown and waterfront areas.
