Protecting the Spruce Run Watershed in Central New Jersey
Integrated Approach
AKRF led a team to develop innovative approaches for protecting the watershed upstream of the Spruce Run Reservoir, located in Central New Jersey, while allowing a reasonable level of economic development.
Through community workshops, AKRF solicited public input on the development of an overall strategy addressing land use, economic development, and watershed protection needs and goals, particularly along key transportation corridors that had recently experienced suburban sprawl development.
We also performed detailed evaluations of current land use and zoning in the region, current stormwater regulations, sensitive watershed areas such as key tributary streams and headwater areas, and potential future development.
