Headed by Technical Director Shandor Szalay, the practice draws on the firm's broadly-based water resources experience and expertise across a number of departments including GIS, Economics, Hazardous Materials, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resources, and Engineering. The Water Resources Practice provides for enhanced collaboration and coordination among water resources professionals within AKRF, allowing the firm to more cogently and comprehensively address its clients' water resources consulting needs.
Since its inception, AKRF has played a pivotal role in addressing water resources management issues for its clients. The firm's approach has always been one of merging seemingly disparate disciplines—engineering, economics, urban planning, public policy, communications and aquatic sciences—to help communities restore, manage, and protect their rivers, estuaries, wetlands, and lakes.
From helping to control flooding with non-structural measures in Westchester County, New York, to maintaining and monitoring green infrastructure projects in Philadelphia, AKRF continues to play a key role in water resources management initiatives throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions. As communities increasingly view their water resources as multi-dimensional (rivers, for example, can be productive fisheries, flood conveyance systems, scenic resources, navigation routes and drinking water sources), AKRF is committed to expanding its service offerings to better help its clients meet these new challenges.
