Ashokan Rail Trail Opens in Ulster County

AKRF celebrated the Ashokan Rail Trail ceremonial opening in Ulster County, NY. Our historians, ecologists, and graphic designers prepared content for and designed 10 interpretive signs and three trailhead kiosk signs along the new 11.5-mile public recreational trail, which follows along the northern edge of the Ashokan Reservoir.  The interpretive signs detail the history of the building of the reservoir, which replaced several towns and their surrounding countryside with a waterbody that is now part of the vital New York City water supply system.
