Senior Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional

AKRF, Inc., a leading engineering, planning and environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and experienced Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)/Certified Safety Professional (CSP) to develop and manage external industrial hygiene and safety services and manage the firm’s internal health & safety program.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+years of relevant occupational safety and health/industrial hygiene experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in the earth sciences, geology, engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and/or  equivalent; advanced degree is desirable.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and relevant training certifications (e.g., 40-hour and 8-hour Supervisor HAZWOPER, 10-hour construction, etc.)

Traffic/Transportation Engineer

AKRF is seeking a traffic/transportation engineer with four to eight years of professional experience. Candidate must have strong analytical, written and verbal communication, and organizational/project management skills to work in a collaborative environment with fellow professionals, clients, and agency personnel.

The successful candidate will support traffic engineering design and planning projects primarily in the Lower Hudson Valley for AKRF’s Traffic and Transportation group. Qualified candidates will be able to prepare analysis and design documents including project deliverables, supervise work prepared by junior staff, and participate in client/public meetings and presentation of project findings.

Educational Requirements:

We are hiring an experienced proposal manager to manage public- and private-sector submittals across various markets and services.  

Qualifications

Junior Planner

Seeking a full-time entry-level planner/urban development specialist for the NYC-based team. Ideal candidates will have graduated with a degree in urban planning, economics or related field, and through an internship or full-time job with a city agency, planning, or development firm will have gained experience in land use planning and/or real estate development.

Primary responsibilities will include preparation of planning analyses and technical reports for environmental review documents, application of economic development strategy, and preparation of real estate market and feasibility studies. The position requires excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills, and the ability to integrate quantitative and qualitative analyses. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of GIS preferred.   

Junior Environmental Engineer

Seeking a full-time Junior Engineer with 2-5 years of experience to support our Environmental Remediation practice in the New York City area. Candidates must have experience with site remediation design (SVE, air sparging, SSDS, multi-phase extraction, in-situ chemical oxidation/bioremediation, etc.), preferably for sites in New York City and/or the surrounding metropolitan area.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's and/or master’s degree in engineering.
  • E.I.T. Certification is preferred.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Must be proficient in CAD. Experience in Revit is a plus.
  • Experience (2-5 years) in environmental remediation system design.

Environmental Scientist/Geologist/Engineer

AKRF is looking for environmental scientists, geologists, environmental/civil/chemical engineers with 2 to 5 years of experience.  Employee could be based out of our New York City, Hudson Valley or New Jersey offices. Work would include conducting Phase I/IIs, remedial investigations, vapor intrusion assessments, report writing (preparation of Work Plans, RIR, RAWP, etc.), and remediation oversight. 

Successful candidates must have:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Environmental/civil/Chemical Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification and 8 Hour refresher

Geotechnical Engineer

AKRF, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with up to 10 years of relevant local experience in the New York metropolitan area, having at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (a Master’s Degree with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering is a plus) and an EIT certificate (PE license is a plus). 

Prospective applicants must have experience in the following areas:

  • Providing geotechnical oversight and logging of geotechnical explorations (borings, test pits, CPTs);
  • Developing laboratory and field testing programs;
  • Preparing engineering analyses for slope stability, settlement and consolidation estimates, deep foundation design (compressive, uplift, and lateral capacities), mat foundation design, ground surcharging, and ground improvement techniques (soil grouting, ground freezing, etc.), and soil liquefaction;
  • Preparing engineering reports, including the evaluation of collected field and laboratory results, preparation of figures and drawings;
  • Providing field oversight for Special Inspection during construction for subgrade inspection, controlled filling and in-place density testing, deep foundation installation (driven/drilled piles). Underpinning and Support of Excavation (SOE) experience a plus.

Applicants should have good writing and analytical skill, and be able to work in a collaborative and dynamic team environment. Please be aware that some fieldwork is required. Construction Inspector/Assistant Office Engineer

AKRF is seeking a full-time Construction Inspector/Assistant Office Engineer to join our New York City Construction Management Services team.

The applicant will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Review plans and specifications at the construction site and/or field office for the construction operations being performed 
  • Provide field inspection of water and/or sewer installation, as well as other utilities, and roadway restoration
  • Monitor progress, verify quantities and ensure compliance to engineering plans, specifications and construction, safety standards and specific agency requirements 
  • Report site results and on-going information to the senior inspector or resident engineer 
  • Use computer-assisted construction management software to prepare inspection documents

Site/Civil Engineer

Seeking civil engineer (BSCE) with 0-3 years of experience. Familiarity with NYC design regulations and permitting requirements is preferred. Experience must include site planning for land development projects including roadway design, storm and sanitary sewer design, grading and drainage design. Working knowledge of AutoCAD essential.

Acoustical Consultant (Mid Level)

AKRF, Inc. is seeking to add a mid-level person to its New York City acoustical group.  Applicants should have at least 3 to 5 years experience and be self-motivated, innovative, highly driven and have the desire to work on a wide range of projects related to architectural acoustics and environmental noise and vibration. Responsibilities would be acoustics/noise/vibration field measurements, reviewing architectural/mechanical/structural drawings, HVAC and mechanical ductwork noise calculations, vibration isolation recommendations, engineering calculations, recommending practical design solutions and project management. Additional experience with modeling (TNM, FTA, CadnaA, etc.), for a wide variety of transportation, development and infrastructure projects (ex: Environmental Impact Statements), computer aided design (CAD) and the CEQR Technical Manual/Noise (E) designations is preferred.

Applicant should have a degree in one or more of the following: acoustical engineering, physics, mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering, and/or noise and vibration. In addition, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, well organized/detail oriented, project management and client relationship skills are keys to success in this role. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

We are seeking a senior level Geotechnical Engineer with a minimum of 15 years of cumulative experience with escalating responsibility.  

Prospective Applicants should have proven and documentable experience in the following areas:

  • Business development, relationship management client interaction
  • Managing multiple projects of varying size and complexity for both private secot clients/developers and also public sector clients/agencies/authorities
  • Responsible for technical review of projects and related deliverables
  • Practical understanding and related field experience regarding foundation-related construction in urban areas
  • Responsible for project-related administrative tasks, including subcontract preparation, invoice review, and management of A/R
  • Experience with subsurface explorations, related analyses and reporting, design development and construction document support, and construction-related Special Inspections.  
  • Familiarity with current New York City and State Building Codes is preferred
  • Experience with Geotechnical Engineering software packages (i.e.: APile, LPile, WEAP, Slide, Plaxis)

CAD Manager

AKRF is seeking a CAD Manager to support Civil and Environmental Engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop in-house standards and effectively implement and facilitate these standards company-wide.
  • Research and implement client’s specific CAD standards.
  • Provide support to AKRF’s CAD users and environment by responding to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically.
  • Conduct new employee CAD orientations.
  • Conduct CAD training for in-house staff.
  • Maintain CAD training curriculums.
  • Work closely with Design Team to ensure project coordination is maintained.
  • Project oversight to ensure compliance with client or in-house requirements as it relates to CAD.
  • Provide production CAD support.
  • Organize and maintain CAD folder structure and environment.

CAD Manager would work closely with AKRF’s IT department by performing the following:

  • Maintain online knowledge-base of CAD technology, processes, and procedures.
  • Light assistance with configuration of new CAD workstations.
  • Assist in deployment and testing of new CAD software.
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention.
  • Track and route problems and requests and document resolutions.
  • Stay current with new CAD and system innovations that could benefit AKRF.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years working knowledge of Autodesk products in a production role required.
  • Ability to provide technical support for all CAD software including: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Infraworks 360, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Resident Engineer

AKRF is seeking a full-time Resident Engineer to join our New York City Construction Management Services team.

The Resident Engineer will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Participating in the development, execution, supervision, and coordination of all technical aspects of field engineering assignments including but not limited to: development of plans, schedules, contracts, procedures, and construction methods and systems. 
  • Performing high-level quality assurance to confirm that the installation of work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, and industry standards. 
  • Supervise the construction engineering work and providing technical expertise.
  • Ensuring that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures. 
  • Reviewing and interpreting drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work. 
  • Providing schedule and progress appraisal reports to the Construction Manager. 
  • Creating and maintaining records, back-charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required. 

Requirements:

  • BS in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an accredited college or university

Candidate must have experience with site assessment, remediation, and brownfield redevelopment preferably in both the private and public sectors.  Building on AKRF’s existing client base in the region, the candidate will play a key role in expanding the environmental practice and will be expected to contribute to the identification and development of new clients and business.

Office Practice Lead – Site/Civil Engineering and Developer Services

AKRF is seeking an experienced and motivated engineer to lead and expand AKRF’s site/civil engineering and developer services practice in our Philadelphia office. The successful candidate will lead all project delivery and business development efforts with support from AKRF’s senior leadership team, marketing department, firm-wide technical practice leads, and from our Philadelphia-based technical staff of engineers, landscape architects, environmental scientists and planners. This candidate will be expected to build on AKRF’s existing client base in the region through their own established professional network and reputation.  

The candidate will lead staff in the preparation of civil engineering design and permitting documents and have experience successfully executing land development / redevelopment projects in the City of Philadelphia.
