Senior Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional

AKRF, Inc., a leading engineering, planning and environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and experienced Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)/Certified Safety Professional (CSP) to develop and manage external industrial hygiene and safety services and manage the firm’s internal health & safety program.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+years of relevant occupational safety and health/industrial hygiene experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in the earth sciences, geology, engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and/or  equivalent; advanced degree is desirable.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and relevant training certifications (e.g., 40-hour and 8-hour Supervisor HAZWOPER, 10-hour construction, etc.)
  • Experience performing/leading industrial hygiene surveys and audits; indoor air quality (IAQ) and sick building assessments, environmental, health and safety (EH&S)/occupational safety training; and medical monitoring program oversight.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing project-level and group-level health and safety programs, including developing and implementing health and safety plans and ensuring requisite training for field and industrial operations. 
  • Experience developing, managing, and reporting on personal and perimeter/community air monitoring programs.
  • Experience with mold, asbestos, and lead inspection and management; licenses a plus.
  • Experience conducting accident investigations and preparing incident reports, as well as preparation and maintenance of recordkeeping to meet corporate and regulatory requirements.

Remediation Professional/Project Manager

AKRF is seeking Junior Project Managers and Project Managers to support the growth of our Site Assessment and Remediation practice in NYC and the surrounding metropolitan area. Employees may be based out of either our Manhattan or Hudson Valley offices. Successful candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the remediation field with a demonstrated increase in responsibilities.

Candidates will have the opportunity to work on various assignments that could include the following responsibilities Phase I environmental site assessments, Phase II/remedial investigations, remediation oversight, remedial plan development and design (including but not limited to SVE, air sparging, SSDS, multi-phase extraction, and in-situ chemical oxidation/bioremediation), and report writing (preparation of Work Plans, RIR, RAWP, etc.).

Qualified candidates must have the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology
  • A minimum of 5 years of site assessment and remediation experience

Graphic Designer

AKRF is looking to hire a full-time Graphic Designer to join the in-house creative team at our New York City headquarters. Applicants should have a BA/BFA/BS in graphic design or a related field, and at least three years of professional experience in a design studio, agency, or in-house creative department. 

The ideal candidate thinks creatively and critically, can develop design concepts, and can translate complex information into clean, elegant visual pieces. S/he takes direction well, collaborates within a team, and works independently to move projects forward.

Responsibilities include design, layout, and branding for marketing materials, proposals, posters, presentations, and trade shows, as well as email marketing, photography and photo editing.

Required Skills 

  • Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and MS PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel  
  • Knowledge of basic HTML and CSS for email marketing (website coding not required) 
  • Expertise in layout of multi-section documents, master pages, styles, etc.

Environmental Scientist/Geologist/Engineer

AKRF is seeking site assessment and remediation professionals to support the growth of our Site Assessment and Remediation practice. Employees have the option to be based out of either our New York City or Hudson Valley offices. Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working on Phase I environmental site assessments 
  • Conducting Phase II and remedial investigations
  • Soil, vapor and indoor air sampling
  • Remediation oversight related to brownfield redevelopment and CAMP monitoring
  • Report preparation and writing (Work Plans, RIR, RAWP, etc.)
  • Oversight of subcontractors performing remedial investigation activities such as drillers, excavation companies and laboratories

Successful candidates must have the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science

Civil Engineer

We are seeking Civil engineers with a minimum of 4 to 6 years experience. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Engineering team in an array of mixed-use commercial, luxury housing, market rate housing, and affordable/supportive housing development projects;
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients and other engineers and architects;
  • Assist with the design and production of plans;
  • Facilitate the construction administration of the designs.

Prospective applicants must have familiarity in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience must include site plan preparation for land development projects including site layout, grading and drainage, stormwater management, utilities, etc;
  • Knowledge of NYC agency filing procedures and permitting requirements (i.e. DOB, DEP, DPR, MTA NYCT, etc);

Senior Acoustical Consultant

AKRF, Inc. is seeking to add a senior acoustical consultant to its New York City acoustics, noise and vibration group. Applicants should have 5 to 10 years experience and be self-motivated, innovative, highly driven, and have the desire work on a wide range of acoustics, noise and vibration projects related to environmental sources (e.g., transportation, industry, energy, infrastructure, etc.); construction; architectural, structural, and MEP systems review; and interior design. Responsibilities would be project management, acoustics/noise/vibration field measurements, acoustical computer modeling (TNM, FTA, CadnaA, INSUL, EASE), reviewing architectural/MEP/structural drawings, HVAC ductwork and equipment noise calculations, vibration isolation recommendations, engineering calculations, and recommending practical design solutions. Additional experience with Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements, the CEQR Technical Manual, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development noise standards, and Noise (E) designations with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation would be beneficial.

Construction Inspector/Assistant Office Engineer

AKRF is seeking a full-time Construction Inspector/Assistant Office Engineer to join our New York City Construction Management Services team.

The applicant will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Review plans and specifications at the construction site and/or field office for the construction operations being performed 
  • Provide field inspection of water and/or sewer installation, as well as other utilities, and roadway restoration
  • Monitor progress, verify quantities and ensure compliance to engineering plans, specifications and construction, safety standards and specific agency requirements 
  • Report site results and on-going information to the senior inspector or resident engineer 
  • Use computer-assisted construction management software to prepare inspection documents

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Construction Management a plus 
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in construction inspection of infrastructure construction projects (water/sewer/roadway) 
  • Must be qualified for NICET Level I/II/III; EIT,CMIT, or CCM a plus

Acoustical Consultant (Mid Level)

AKRF, Inc. is seeking to add a mid-level person to its New York City acoustical group.  Applicants should have at least 3 to 5 years experience and be self-motivated, innovative, highly driven and have the desire to work on a wide range of projects related to architectural acoustics and environmental noise and vibration. Responsibilities would be acoustics/noise/vibration field measurements, reviewing architectural/mechanical/structural drawings, HVAC and mechanical ductwork noise calculations, vibration isolation recommendations, engineering calculations, recommending practical design solutions and project management. Additional experience with modeling (TNM, FTA, CadnaA, etc.), for a wide variety of transportation, development and infrastructure projects (ex: Environmental Impact Statements), computer aided design (CAD) and the CEQR Technical Manual/Noise (E) designations is preferred.

CAD Manager

AKRF is seeking a CAD Manager to support Civil and Environmental Engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop in-house standards and effectively implement and facilitate these standards company-wide.
  • Research and implement client’s specific CAD standards.
  • Provide support to AKRF’s CAD users and environment by responding to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically.
  • Conduct new employee CAD orientations.
  • Conduct CAD training for in-house staff.
  • Maintain CAD training curriculums.
  • Work closely with Design Team to ensure project coordination is maintained.
  • Project oversight to ensure compliance with client or in-house requirements as it relates to CAD.
  • Provide production CAD support.
  • Organize and maintain CAD folder structure and environment.

CAD Manager would work closely with AKRF’s IT department by performing the following:

  • Maintain online knowledge-base of CAD technology, processes, and procedures.
  • Light assistance with configuration of new CAD workstations.
  • Assist in deployment and testing of new CAD software.
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention.
  • Track and route problems and requests and document resolutions.
  • Stay current with new CAD and system innovations that could benefit AKRF.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years working knowledge of Autodesk products in a production role required.
  • Ability to provide technical support for all CAD software including: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Infraworks 360, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of GIS preferred.

Resident Engineer

AKRF is seeking a full-time Resident Engineer to join our New York City Construction Management Services team.

The Resident Engineer will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Participating in the development, execution, supervision, and coordination of all technical aspects of field engineering assignments including but not limited to: development of plans, schedules, contracts, procedures, and construction methods and systems. 
  • Performing high-level quality assurance to confirm that the installation of work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, and industry standards. 
  • Supervise the construction engineering work and providing technical expertise.
  • Ensuring that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures. 
  • Reviewing and interpreting drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work. 
  • Providing schedule and progress appraisal reports to the Construction Manager. 
  • Creating and maintaining records, back-charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required. 

Requirements:

  • BS in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an accredited college or university

AKRF’s Maryland office is seeking a full-time Water Resources Professional to support the expansion of our growing water resources practice in the Maryland/D.C. region.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in expanding AKRF’s market position in Baltimore and Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
  • Management of project tasks for existing water resource projects.
  • Provide technical support as needed with a focus on green infrastructure design.

Skills:

  • Prior experience with planning and designing stream restoration, stormwater and green infrastructure projects in urban and suburban settings.
  • Strong project/task management, communication, and technical design skills in a consulting environment.
  • Specific experience in more than one of the following areas is required: stream restoration/natural channel design, storm water BMP/green infrastructure design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, ecological landscape design, fluvial geomorphic analysis/assessment, and wetland restoration design.

Office Practice Lead – Site/Civil Engineering and Developer Services

AKRF is seeking an experienced and motivated engineer to lead and expand AKRF’s site/civil engineering and developer services practice in our Philadelphia office. The successful candidate will lead all project delivery and business development efforts with support from AKRF’s senior leadership team, marketing department, firm-wide technical practice leads, and from our Philadelphia-based technical staff of engineers, landscape architects, environmental scientists and planners. The candidate is expected to build on AKRF’s existing client base in the region through their own established professional network and reputation.

The candidate will lead staff in the preparation of civil engineering design and permitting documents and have experience successfully executing land development / redevelopment projects in the City of Philadelphia. Candidates with experience in environmental assessment and remediation will also be considered.
