Senior Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional

AKRF, Inc., a leading engineering, planning and environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and experienced Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)/Certified Safety Professional (CSP) to develop and manage external industrial hygiene and safety services and manage the firm’s internal health & safety program.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+years of relevant occupational safety and health/industrial hygiene experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in the earth sciences, geology, engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and/or  equivalent; advanced degree is desirable.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and relevant training certifications (e.g., 40-hour and 8-hour Supervisor HAZWOPER, 10-hour construction, etc.)

DOT Green Infrastructure Contract Position

AKRF is interested in hiring staff to consult with the NYC DOT Green Infrastructure team. This role is a contract, benefits eligible position and the candidate must be willing to travel to Queens. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Review and comment on Green Infrastructure projects funded by DEP. This may also include DEP partners. 
  • Modify designs in CAD.
  • Analyze the overall impact of green infrastructure and any positive and negative implications it may have on street function, street safety, pedestrian safety, and vehicular safety.
  • Present to and coordinate with relevant DOT staff or units to resolve design issues or site conflicts.
  • Utilize project tracking sheets for contract areas and the bioswales reviewed, approved and other relevant data, and to generate digital data for the projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or similar.
  • Must have a working knowledge of AutoCad.
  • GIS skills are preferred.

Civil Engineer

We are seeking Civil engineers with a minimum of 4 to 6 years experience. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Engineering team in an array of mixed-use commercial, luxury housing, market rate housing, and affordable/supportive housing development projects;
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients and other engineers and architects;
  • Assist with the design and production of plans;
  • Facilitate the construction administration of the designs.

Prospective applicants must have familiarity in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience must include site plan preparation for land development projects including site layout, grading and drainage, stormwater management, utilities, etc;

Senior Acoustical Consultant

AKRF, Inc. is seeking to add a senior acoustical consultant to its New York City acoustics, noise and vibration group. Applicants should have 5 to 10 years experience and be self-motivated, innovative, highly driven, and have the desire work on a wide range of acoustics, noise and vibration projects related to environmental sources (e.g., transportation, industry, energy, infrastructure, etc.); construction; architectural, structural, and MEP systems review; and interior design. Responsibilities would be project management, acoustics/noise/vibration field measurements, acoustical computer modeling (TNM, FTA, CadnaA, INSUL, EASE), reviewing architectural/MEP/structural drawings, HVAC ductwork and equipment noise calculations, vibration isolation recommendations, engineering calculations, and recommending practical design solutions. Additional experience with Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements, the CEQR Technical Manual, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development noise standards, and Noise (E) designations with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation would be beneficial.

Geotechnical Engineer

We are seeking Geotechnical engineers with a minimum of 5 to 10 years experience.

  • Management of multiple projects of varying size and complexity for both private sector clients/developers and also public sector clients/agencies/authorities
  • Responsible for technical review of projects and related deliverables

AKRF is seeking an engineer with 3 to 7 years of experience for our Marine Engineering Practice, in New York City.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Technical support and task management for waterfront infrastructure and public improvement projects, including the largest public coastal protection project in the history of New York City.
  • Project execution and project management of coastal and waterfront projects for private and public clients throughout the New York Metropolitan area.
  • Coordination with the AKRF Natural Resources group for waterfront permitting on development and revitalization projects.
  • Client management and business development focused on the growth of the Marine Engineering practice. 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required.
  • Experience with structural design required.
  • Must be experienced in the development of design concepts and design drawing plan set preparation.

Stormwater/Resiliency Project Manager

AKRF’s New York City office is seeking a full-time stormwater, resiliency, and/or utility/roadway design professional to support the expansion of our growing stormwater and resiliency design practice in the New York City region.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in expanding AKRF’s market position in New York City metropolitan area.
  • Management of project tasks for existing stormwater, resiliency, and utility/roadway design projects.
  • Provide technical support as needed with a focus on stormwater and utility/roadway infrastructure design.
  • Skills:
  • Extensive prior experience managing stormwater, resiliency, and/or utility/roadway infrastructure design projects in urban and suburban settings.
  • Strong project/task management, communication, and technical design skills in a consulting environment.

Junior Environmental Engineer

Seeking a full-time Junior Engineer with 2-5 years of experience to support our Environmental Remediation practice in the New York City area. Candidates must have experience with site remediation design (SVE, air sparging, SSDS, multi-phase extraction, in-situ chemical oxidation/bioremediation, etc.), preferably for sites in New York City and/or the surrounding metropolitan area.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's and/or master’s degree in engineering.
  • E.I.T. Certification is preferred.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Must be proficient in CAD. Experience in Revit is a plus.
  • Experience (2-5 years) in environmental remediation system design.
  • Experience preparing remedial alternative analyses/feasibility studies.

Environmental Scientist/Geologist/Engineer

AKRF is looking for environmental scientists, geologists, environmental/civil/chemical engineers with 2 to 5 years of experience.  Employee could be based out of our New York City, Hudson Valley or New Jersey offices. Work would include conducting Phase I/IIs, remedial investigations, vapor intrusion assessments, report writing (preparation of Work Plans, RIR, RAWP, etc.), and remediation oversight.

The applicant will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Review plans and specifications at the construction site and/or field office for the construction operations being performed 
  • Provide field inspection of water and/or sewer installation, as well as other utilities, and roadway restoration

Acoustical Consultant (Mid Level)

AKRF, Inc. is seeking to add a mid-level person to its New York City acoustical group.  Applicants should have at least 3 to 5 years experience and be self-motivated, innovative, highly driven and have the desire to work on a wide range of projects related to architectural acoustics and environmental noise and vibration. CAD Manager

AKRF is seeking a CAD Manager to support Civil and Environmental Engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop in-house standards and effectively implement and facilitate these standards company-wide.
  • Research and implement client’s specific CAD standards.
  • Provide support to AKRF’s CAD users and environment by responding to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically.
  • Conduct new employee CAD orientations.
  • Conduct CAD training for in-house staff.
  • Maintain CAD training curriculums.
  • Work closely with Design Team to ensure project coordination is maintained.
  • Project oversight to ensure compliance with client or in-house requirements as it relates to CAD.

Resident Engineer

AKRF is seeking a full-time Resident Engineer to join our New York City Construction Management Services team.

The Resident Engineer will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Participating in the development, execution, supervision, and coordination of all technical aspects of field engineering assignments including but not limited to: development of plans, schedules, contracts, procedures, and construction methods and systems. 
  • Performing high-level quality assurance to confirm that the installation of work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, and industry standards. 
  • Supervise the construction engineering work and providing technical expertise.
  • Ensuring that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures. 
  • Reviewing and interpreting drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work. 
  • Providing schedule and progress appraisal reports to the Construction Manager.

  • Strong project/task management, communication, and technical design skills in a consulting environment.
  • Specific experience in more than one of the following areas is required: stream restoration/natural channel design, storm water BMP/green infrastructure design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, ecological landscape design, fluvial geomorphic analysis/assessment, and wetland restoration design.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Significant experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, SWMM, Hydro-CAD and HEC-RAS.

Office Practice Lead – Site/Civil Engineering and Developer Services

AKRF is seeking an experienced and motivated engineer to lead and expand AKRF’s site/civil engineering and developer services practice in our Philadelphia office. The successful candidate will lead all project delivery and business development efforts with support from AKRF’s senior leadership team, marketing department, firm-wide technical practice leads, and from our Philadelphia-based technical staff of engineers, landscape architects, environmental scientists and planners. The candidate is expected to build on AKRF’s existing client base in the region through their own established professional network and reputation.

The candidate will lead staff in the preparation of civil engineering design and permitting documents and have experience successfully executing land development / redevelopment projects in the City of Philadelphia. Candidates with experience in environmental assessment and remediation will also be considered.

AKRF is seeking a full-time Senior Site Assessment & Remediation Professional with 15+ years of experience to support the expansion of our environmental practice in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Candidate must have experience with site assessment, remediation, and brownfield redevelopment preferably in both the private and public sectors.  Building on AKRF’s existing client base in the region, the candidate will play a key role in expanding the environmental practice and will be expected to contribute to the identification and development of new clients and business.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor´s and/or master’s degree in geology, environmental science or environmental engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the environmental consulting practice area
  • Ability to manage, lead and execute high profile site assessment, remediation, and brownfield     redevelopment projects
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully developing new business
  • Preparation and QA/QC of various technical deliverables 
  • Knowledge and understanding of PA regulations and Philadelphia market; NJ and DE experience a plus
