Senior Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional

AKRF, Inc., a leading engineering, planning and environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and experienced Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)/Certified Safety Professional (CSP) to develop and manage external industrial hygiene and safety services and manage the firm’s internal health & safety program.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+years of relevant occupational safety and health/industrial hygiene experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in the earth sciences, geology, engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and/or  equivalent; advanced degree is desirable.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and relevant training certifications (e.g., 40-hour and 8-hour Supervisor HAZWOPER, 10-hour construction, etc.)
  • Experience performing/leading industrial hygiene surveys and audits; indoor air quality (IAQ) and sick building assessments, environmental, health and safety (EH&S)/occupational safety training; and medical monitoring program oversight.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing project-level and group-level health and safety programs, including developing and implementing health and safety plans and ensuring requisite training for field and industrial operations. 
  • Experience developing, managing, and reporting on personal and perimeter/community air monitoring programs.
  • Experience with mold, asbestos, and lead inspection and management; licenses a plus.
  • Experience conducting accident investigations and preparing incident reports, as well as preparation and maintenance of recordkeeping to meet corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies (e.g. OSHA, local and state health & environmental departments)
  • Strong managerial, business development, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience related to railroad and/or New York City metro area construction (e.g., cranes, scaffolds, sidewalk protection, trenches/excavations, etc.) a plus.

Geotechnical Engineer

We are seeking Geotechnical engineers with a minimum of 5 to 10 years experience.

Prospective applicants must experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Providing geotechnical oversight and logging of geotechnical explorations (borings, test pits, CPTs);
  • Developing laboratory and field testing programs;
  • Preparing engineering reports, including the evaluation of collected field and laboratory results, preparation of figures and drawings;
  • Preparing engineering analyses for slope stability, settlement and consolidation estimates, deep foundation design (compressive, uplift, and lateral capacities), mat foundation design, ground surcharging, and ground improvement techniques (soil grouting, ground freezing, etc.), and soil liquefaction;
  • Management of multiple projects (prior project management skills a plus);
  • Working knowledge and related field experience regarding foundation-related construction in urban areas
  • Providing field oversight for Special Inspection during construction for subgrade inspection, controlled filling and in-place density testing, deep foundation installation (driven/drilled piles). Underpinning and Support of Excavation (SOE) experience a plus.  New York City experience is a plus.

Applicants are required to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (a Master’s Degree with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering is a plus), as well as a current Engineer-In-Training Certificate (PE license a plus).  Applicants with a NYS PE are preferred; however applicants with PE Licensure in other states will be required to obtain NYS Licensure within 6 months of hire.

Civil Engineer

We are seeking Civil engineers with a minimum of 5 to 7 years experience. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Engineering team in an array of mixed-use commercial, luxury housing, market rate housing, and affordable/supportive housing development projects;
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients and other engineers and architects;
  • Assist with the design and production of plans;
  • Facilitate the construction administration of the designs.

Senior Acoustical Consultant

AKRF, Inc. is seeking to add a senior acoustical consultant to its New York City acoustics, noise and vibration group. Applicants should have 5 to 10 years experience and be self-motivated, innovative, highly driven, and have the desire work on a wide range of acoustics, noise and vibration projects related to environmental sources (e.g., transportation, industry, energy, infrastructure, etc.); construction; architectural, structural, and MEP systems review; and interior design. Responsibilities would be project management, acoustics/noise/vibration field measurements, acoustical computer modeling (TNM, FTA, CadnaA, INSUL, EASE), reviewing architectural/MEP/structural drawings, HVAC ductwork and equipment noise calculations, vibration isolation recommendations, engineering calculations, and recommending practical design solutions. Additional experience with Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements, the CEQR Technical Manual, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development noise standards, and Noise (E) designations with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation would be beneficial.

Construction Inspector/Assistant Office Engineer

AKRF is seeking a full-time Construction Inspector/Assistant Office Engineer to join our New York City Construction Management Services team.

The applicant will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Review plans and specifications at the construction site and/or field office for the construction operations being performed 
  • Provide field inspection of water and/or sewer installation, as well as other utilities, and roadway restoration
  • Monitor progress, verify quantities and ensure compliance to engineering plans, specifications and construction, safety standards and specific agency requirements 
  • Report site results and on-going information to the senior inspector or resident engineer 
  • Use computer-assisted construction management software to prepare inspection documents

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Construction Management a plus 
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in construction inspection of infrastructure construction projects (water/sewer/roadway) 
  • Must be qualified for NICET Level I/II/III; EIT,CMIT, or CCM a plus

Acoustical Consultant (Mid Level)

AKRF, Inc. is seeking to add a mid-level person to its New York City acoustical group.  Applicants should have at least 3 to 5 years experience and be self-motivated, innovative, highly driven and have the desire to work on a wide range of projects related to architectural acoustics and environmental noise and vibration. Responsibilities would be acoustics/noise/vibration field measurements, reviewing architectural/mechanical/structural drawings, HVAC and mechanical ductwork noise calculations, vibration isolation recommendations, engineering calculations, recommending practical design solutions and project management. Additional experience with modeling (TNM, FTA, CadnaA, etc.), for a wide variety of transportation, development and infrastructure projects (ex: Environmental Impact Statements), computer aided design (CAD) and the CEQR Technical Manual/Noise (E) designations is preferred.

Resident Engineer

AKRF is seeking a full-time Resident Engineer to join our New York City Construction Management Services team.

The Resident Engineer will have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Participating in the development, execution, supervision, and coordination of all technical aspects of field engineering assignments including but not limited to: development of plans, schedules, contracts, procedures, and construction methods and systems. 
  • Performing high-level quality assurance to confirm that the installation of work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, and industry standards. 
  • Supervise the construction engineering work and providing technical expertise.
  • Ensuring that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures. 
  • Reviewing and interpreting drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work. 
  • Providing schedule and progress appraisal reports to the Construction Manager. 
  • Creating and maintaining records, back-charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required. 

Requirements:

  • BS in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an accredited college or university 
  • PE license in the State of New York required
  • 5 years of experience in construction inspection or management of infrastructure construction projects (highway/sewer/water) 
  • Must be qualified for ASCE Grade V

Office Practice Lead – Site/Civil Engineering and Developer Services

AKRF is seeking an experienced and motivated engineer to lead and expand AKRF’s site/civil engineering and developer services practice in our Philadelphia office. The successful candidate will lead all project delivery and business development efforts with support from AKRF’s senior leadership team, marketing department, firm-wide technical practice leads, and from our Philadelphia-based technical staff of engineers, landscape architects, environmental scientists and planners. The candidate is expected to build on AKRF’s existing client base in the region through their own established professional network and reputation.

The candidate will lead staff in the preparation of civil engineering design and permitting documents and have experience successfully executing land development / redevelopment projects in the City of Philadelphia. Candidates with experience in environmental assessment and remediation will also be considered.

Position Requirements: 

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) and relationships in the development sector, including relationships with architects, developers, and private institutions
  • Bachelor's and/or master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering
