Riverhead to Wildwood Electric Transmission Line

Project

Riverhead to Wildwood Electric Transmission Line

Location

Suffolk County, NY

Client

National Grid

AKRF prepared an Article VII Application for proposed upgrades to the Long Island Power Authority’s existing 10.6 mile Wildwood to Riverhead electric transmission line in Suffolk County, NY.

The proposed upgrades were required to increase the transmission line operational capacity from 69 kV to 138 kV in support of anticipated future electric demand.

As the transmission line was more than 10 miles long and the upgraded line would operate at greater than 100 kV, a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need authorizing the construction, operation, and maintenance of the line was required.

AKRF prepared the Article VII application pursuant to Section 121-a(3) of the Public Service Law and the implementing regulations 16 NYCRR Subpart 85-1). The detailed areas of analysis included land use, natural resources, visual resources, coastal zone consistency, and construction. The Article VII Application was filed in March 2011 and a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need was issued in July 2012.
