More Parking, Less Traffic at Westchester Airport
Park Place at Westchester County Airport
North Castle, NY
11 New King Street, LLC
AKRF has been providing environmental planning, engineering, and transportation planning services for a proposed 1,450 space parking facility at Westchester County Airport in the Town of North Castle, NY. The facility would alleviate parking constraints currently experienced at the airport and reduce the number of multiple trips for picking up and dropping off at the airport, because travelers will have an assured location to leave their car.
Through the integration of our technical disciplines (traffic, water resources, economics, and sustainability), AKRF created a narrative about the measurably beneficial environmental impacts of adding the parking facility, such as:
- Reducing traffic coming to the airport by 30 percent
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the reduction of traffic
- Improving the quality of runoff going directly into a New York City reservoir by treating currently untreated runoff on the project site and a portion of a neighboring site
- Transforming an underperforming property into a significant tax ratable
AKRF prepared an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed project, with specific focus on how the proposed garage would accommodate existing and future parking demand for the airport. The traffic analysis prepared for this EIS assessed the diversion of traffic on the airport roadways using the Synchro/SimTraffic simulation model.
