Maximizing Wetland Acreage in Southern New Jersey
Old Turtle Thorofare Wetland Mitigation Bank
Middle Township, NJ
Evergreen Environmental, LLC
AKRF assisted Evergreen Environmental in the assessment, design, and final credit approval for the 16.8-acre Old Turtle Thorofare Wetland Mitigation Bank in Middle Township, NJ.
AKRF’s design for the site maximized creditable wetland acreage while remaining sensitive to valuable non-wetland habitats on the site, and this consideration was well-received by the Interagency Review Team (IRT) that is responsible for technical and regulatory oversight of the Bank’s development.
The design for the site considered areas of subsurface contamination, the site’s tidal regime, the type and quality of adjacent marsh vegetation, habitat for listed species, and the possibility of invasive vegetation.
The scope of our services included:
- Subsurface contamination and geotechnical investigations
- Wetland delineation and habitat assessments
- Threatened/endangered species surveys
- Biobenchmark development in adjacent marshes
- Engineering design, grading, and planting plans for the site
In addition, AKRF prepared the Prospectus for the site, and currently is developing the Mitigation Banking Instrument (MBI) and environmental permit applications for the Bank based on information collected in the field and presented in the Prospectus.
