Moynihan Train Hall Opens in Manhattan

On December 30, 2020, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the grand opening of Moynihan Train Hall, a $1.6 billion project transforming the 100-year-old James A. Farley Building into a world-class 250,000-square-foot transportation hub that increases the existing Penn Station rail complex’s concourse space by 50 percent. An additional 700,000 square feet of commercial, retail, and dining space serve Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road passengers and other shoppers and patrons.

Over the span of two decades, AKRF has participated in planning and approvals for Moynihan Train Hall from its earliest concept planning through complex NEPA and SEQRA analysis and documentation. Our historians assisted with the federally required coordination process pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and helped draft a programmatic agreement to avoid potential historic resource impacts from the proposed project.
