Front and York at 85 Jay Street

Front and York was a former industrial and manufacturing parcel with a portion used for lead smelting purposes. The site was enrolled into the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Brownfield Cleanup Program, and incorporated site cleanup activities into the redevelopment. The contamination consisted of various metals (primarily lead) along with numerous semi-volatile organic compounds in the soil. AKRF implemented a Remedial Action Work Plan for the site, including the removal of over 250,000 cubic yards of material along with several underground storage tanks. We implemented a site-specific health and safety plan and community air monitoring plan during excavation and loading of material for off-site transport.

The site received a certificate of completion for a Track 1 Unrestricted Use in November 2019. Front and York will bring 728 apartments and 150,000 square feet of amenities (including an interior landscaped garden) to 85 Jay Street in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn, with ground-floor retail and both public and private parking.
