Hanscom Middle School

The new two-story, 85,000-square-foot middle school at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts includes flexible learning space, common areas, and a unique cafeteria/library meeting multimedia education needs through an internet café environment. AKRF served as acoustical consultant, assessing outdoor noise levels near the proposed school site resulting from private aircraft at the airfield. The noise data was used to define building core/shell acoustical performance criteria. Planning and programming for the 350-student school was developed in collaboration with U.S. Department of Defense Educational Activity and other federal and local agencies.

In Their Words
