Distinctive 17-story, 740,000-square-foot hospital in Manhattan
Jefferson University Philadelphia
Jefferson is a university and healthcare system established in 2017 through the merger of Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University. Home to Jefferson University Hospitals and the Sidney Kimmel Medical College, the institution serves a healthcare network spanning Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. AKRF has provided acoustical consulting for several projects at Jefferson, including the design of noise and vibration mitigation for a multi-phase upgrade of complex mechanical systems within Alumni Hall and adaptive re-use of a two-story, out-of-date air handler core/shell for new space. We measured and analyzed noise and vibration levels during several controlled-demolition mockup tests to help guide the selection of demolition equipment and schedule. We also conducted monitoring during demolition and consulted with the construction manager to identify and troubleshoot exceedance of these thresholds throughout the project.
