Lanier Playground

In 2018, the renovated Lanier Playground in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of South Philadelphia opened with a new playground, fitness path, dog parks, picnic areas, play equipment, and interactive water features. AKRF was lead designer for the 4-acre playground, working closely with The Trust for Public Land and local community under the Trust’s citywide Parks for People initiative to reintroduce to the community a park that had been locked up and off-limits to neighbors for over a decade. The park was also renovated below the surface, where a new water-filtration system manages up to 106 million gallons of stormwater per year — the largest stormwater basin in the city according to the Philadelphia Water Department.

Newsworthy

Over 11,000 people live within a 10-minute walk of Lanier Playground, which had been closed for over a decade.
