Advancing a new light rail system to LaGuardia Airport
PATH Extension Project
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has embarked on preliminary engineering and environmental review for a proposed 2.5-mile extension of PATH heavy-rail service from Newark Pennsylvania Station to the Newark Rail Link Station adjacent to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. The project would allow direct transit to the airport from nearby New Jersey cities as well as Lower Manhattan while supplementing existing service to the airport by New Jersey Transit and Amtrak. AKRF is leading a consultant team in providing transportation planning, conceptual design, and environmental review pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act. The project includes an extensive travel demand forecasting effort and evaluating commuter parking scenarios. AKRF is also preparing an emissions inventory and analyzing air pollutant dispersion for construction, and analyzing greenhouse gas emissions and emission reduction options.
