PATH Extension Project

Before the project was canceled in 2023, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey initiated preliminary engineering and environmental review for a proposed 2.5-mile extension of PATH heavy-rail service from Newark Pennsylvania Station to the Newark Rail Link Station adjacent to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. The project would have allowed direct transit to the airport from nearby New Jersey cities as well as Lower Manhattan while supplementing existing service to the airport by New Jersey Transit and Amtrak. AKRF led a consultant team in providing transportation planning, conceptual design, and environmental review pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act. The project included an extensive travel demand forecasting effort and evaluating commuter parking scenarios. AKRF also prepared an emissions inventory and analyzed air pollutant dispersion for construction, and analyzed greenhouse gas emissions and emission reduction options.
