Row New York Boathouse

Row New York is designing a new 14,000-square-foot boathouse and flagship location for the non-profit organization in Sherman Creek Park. AKRF is responsible for site evaluation, geotechnical investigation, and design of a new abutment, fixed pier, gangway, and floating dock system to support the proposed rowing activities. In coordination with the architect, we analyzed and developed design concepts for multiple structural elements that considered recreational benefits of the facility, exposure to wind-driven waves and storm tides, constructability constraints created by the site, and maintenance considerations for the facility. Our geotechnical engineering group explored the site with borings on both the land and the nearby Harlem River for the design of foundations for a new boathouse and new gangway and pier structure, respectively.
