The Frick Collection Expansion & Enhancement

The Frick Collection has embarked on a transformative renovation program designed by Selldorf Architects, to be executed Beyer Blinder Belle. The project encompasses approximately 60,000 square feet of repurposed space and 27,000 square feet of new construction (resulting in a net gain of 18,000) to accommodate institutional and programmatic needs while upgrading visitor amenities and overall accessibility to the building’s grounds and galleries. The project will:

  • Provide unprecedented access to the original residence by opening the second floor to the public
  • Create new spaces for the presentation of works from the collection and a special exhibition gallery
  • Introduce a purpose-built education center and auditorium that will better accommodate participants in education and public programs
  • Improve visitor circulation and amenities, including ADA accessibility throughout the Frick
  • Upgrade conservation spaces to ensure care of collection and facilities
  • Update infrastructure to safeguard the Frick’s collection and buildings and improve its energy efficiency

AKRF prepared the Environmental Assessment Statement pursuant to City Environmental Quality Review guidelines, including key assessments of historic resources and construction impacts. In March 2020, the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals voted unanimously to approve the plan for the Frick’s project. Learn more about the project at https://www.frickfuture.org.
