Yankee Stadium

Opened in 2009, Yankee Stadium replaced one of the most iconic major league baseball venues in history. AKRF prepared the Environmental Impact Statement and provided strategic planning support for the new 51,000-seat, $1.3 billion stadium across East 161st Street from the original ballpark. For the assessment of historic resources, AKRF prepared documentation on Yankee Stadium for an evaluation by local and state historic agencies as to its historic merit; identified and assessed impacts on historic resources in the study area; prepared a study evaluating the potential of adaptively reusing nearby Bronx Terminal Market structures; and developed mitigation measures with the State Historic Preservation Office, the National Park Service, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, and other involved parties. The stadium project included a series of transportation and infrastructure improvements as well as open space development.
