Environmental Justice

AKRF prepares environmental justice analyses in compliance with Executive Order 12898, Federal Actions to Address Environmental Justice in Minority Populations and Low Income Populations (February 11, 1994) for federal projects undergoing review pursuant to National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Our analyses are consistent with the applicable federal guidance for incorporating environmental justice concerns into environmental review and permitting, such as the guidance issued by the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), and the Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).

We seek to address environmental justice concerns early in the planning process, so that public outreach efforts can reflect any particular environmental justice issues.

In addition to the federal policies, we are also familiar with state and local guidance and procedures that seek to ensure environmental justice, including the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (NYSDEC) Environmental Justice policy and New York City’s Fair Share procedures.
