Data Development and Management

The GIS group maintains AKRF’s extensive database of geographic information, including topographic data, land use and zoning, economic and census data, natural resources, addresses and property information, buildings, transportation features, aerial and satellite imagery, CAD drawings, and historic maps.

Our GIS specialists have a great deal of experience converting and migrating data between formats. The firm’s projects often require the integration of diverse datasets from multiple sources, including CAD drawings and ESRI shapefiles to ASCII text files or Excel spreadsheets.

The GIS group also often digitizes data directly from primary source data such as aerial photos, site plans or historic maps.

The scope of our services includes:

  • Digitizing from scanned and aligned source maps and diagrams
  • Tracking down public and commercial GIS data
  • Geocoding addresses and place locations
  • Converting and migrating data between formats
