Vernon Park Rain Garden Design
AKRF’s landscape planning and design group developed the native planting plan and participated in public outreach activities for a rain garden in Vernon Park within the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia.
The process involved meeting with stakeholders on multiple occasions to review the design plans and assistance with the coordination of planning, construction, planting, and multiple volunteer groups, including over 50 local businesses, City agencies, and community groups.
AKRF prepared graphics and brochures for distribution to community members, and assisted with volunteer coordination and education throughout the project construction period.
In addition, AKRF’s landscape planning and design group developed an easy-to-follow maintenance guide for the ongoing stewardship by volunteers.
From a pool of 89 potential sites, the Vernon Park Rain Garden project was awarded the prestigious 2013 Community Greening Award by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
