AKRF provided site/civil engineering services for a new high school in the Maspeth neighborhood of Queens, NY.

This approximately 150,000-square-foot facility, developed on the site of a former industrial building, includes a large outdoor recreational area in the school’s rear yard.

AKRF’s responsibilities included the following site/civil elements:

  • Site demolition, including existing building structure
  • Landscape design services, including design of on-site synthetic turf playing field and outdoor sports equipment
  • Gates, fences, and site furnishings
  • On-site drainage and stormwater management system
  • Utility improvements and building connections
  • Builders Pavement Plan (curb cuts and street improvements)
  • Pedestrian access, walkways, and open space areas
  • Off-site school crosswalk and signage improvements

Our work supported PKSB Architects in completing Pre-Schematic, Schematic, and Design Development documents for the project.

We also obtained all necessary permit approvals from:

  • New York City Department of Environmental Protection for sanitary and storm sewer connections
  • New York City Fire Department
  • New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) School Safety Division for new school crosswalks, school crossing pavement markings, and modifications to street parking regulation signs
  • New York City Department of Parks and Recreation for existing tree pit modifications and new tree planting
  • New York City School Construction Authority Building Code Compliance Division for Builders Pavement Plan improvements
  • NYCDOT Division of Permits for new electric service, following coordination with Con Edison

In addition, AKRF completed the Environmental Assessment Form (EAF) with supplemental studies for the facility.
