New York Historical Tang Wing for American Democracy

Construction topped out in 2025 on the four-story, 71,000-square-foot expansion of the cultural institution’s campus at West 77th Street and Central Park West in Manhattan.

AKRF provided environmental planning, historic resources consulting, site assessment/remediation, and civil engineering for the project, which includes a new home for the Academy of American Democracy and a new American LBGTQ+ Museum.

Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the $175 million project also includes a ground-floor sculpture garden, new classrooms and galleries, and a rooftop garden and conservatory.
