New York Historical's Tang Wing for American Democracy opened in 2026 as a four-story expansion of the cultural institution's campus in Manhattan.

Construction topped out in 2025 on the four-story, 71,000-square-foot expansion of the cultural institution’s campus at West 77th Street and Central Park West in Manhattan.

AKRF provided environmental planning, historic resources consulting, site assessment/remediation, and civil engineering for the 71,000-square-foot expansion, which includes a new home for the Academy of American Democracy and a new American LBGTQ+ Museum.

The $175 million project designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects also includes a ground-floor sculpture garden, new classrooms and galleries, and a rooftop garden and conservatory. Renovations to more than 30,000 square feet of existing museum space were included as well.
