Planning and Policy
AKRF continues to make substantive contributions to the public planning and policy initiatives of local government.
AKRF provides consulting services for the review, development, and implementation of public policy, including the preparation of municipal comprehensive plans and neighborhood and campus master plans.
Our efforts often focus on land use, zoning, economic development, transportation, open space, sustainability, and climate change.
We have been a stakeholder in developing New York City’s Green Fast Track Initiative, serve on New York City’s Get Stuff Built Advisory Board, and are currently working with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice to lead implementation of the pilot program for the city’s groundbreaking Climate Resiliency Design Guidelines.
Recent Milestones
AKRF worked on all five neighborhood plans approved by the New York City Council in 2025, which will create nearly 50,000 new homes in total. These include the East Bronx, Atlantic Avenue, Midtown South, Jamaica, and Long Island City rezonings. We also led a number of climate resilience and adaptation planning studies adopted in 2025.
