The New York State Regional Food Hub opened in 2025 in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx.

The $45 million, 60,000 square-foot cold-storage facility is operated by GrowNYC and represents a joint state and city investment designed to “strengthen the local food economy, support New York farmers, and improve access to healthy and affordable foods for low-income communities.”

AKRF served as Remedial Engineer for the project located on the site of a former Con Ed manufactured gas plant. We certified the Remedial Action Work Plan approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation under New York State’s Brownfield Cleanup Program and provided construction monitoring, and reporting.

This included administering a Community Air Monitoring Program with continuous data collection and automated telemetry for airborne particulates and volatile organics during remedial activities. We also collected soil and concrete samples proposed for reuse or off-site disposal.
