New York City opened a new 50,000-square-foot animal care center in September 2024.

AKRF led site assessment/remediation services for the redevelopment of a contaminated property in Queens under New York State’s Brownfields Cleanup Program. The site was formerly used as an auto wrecking facility and salvage yard and was contaminated with petroleum-related compounds and solvents prior to the cleanup.

The building includes workspaces for staff, training, and community education as well as modern animal housing, medical suites for exams, surgery, grooming, storage of supplies and food, and laundry rooms.
