The Peninsula is a transformative redevelopment of the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Facility into a mixed-use campus.

In 2018, the New York City Council approved the $300 million, 100% affordable housing redevelopment initiative, and the first building opened in 2022 with affordable housing and a cultural arts center.

AKRF prepared the CEQR Environmental Impact Statement and is leading civil engineering for the project—led by Philip Habib & Associates prior to acquisition. AKRF has also provided air quality consulting in support of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation approval process subsequent to the EIS.

The Peninsula is being developed by Gilbane Development Company, Hudson Companies, and Mutual Housing Association of New York.
