Shefa School Relocation

The Shefa School opened its new facility for students with language-based learning disabilities in Manhattan in 2024.
Houghton Associates provided acoustical design for the adaptive reuse project prior to Ben joining AKRF.
Designed by Dattner Architects, a 12-story, 1920s-era office building on the Upper West Side was transformed into a school serving 350 students with adaptable classrooms, a modern cafeteria, beit midrash for study and prayer, outdoor spaces, and a playroof.
One of the key challenges was providing optimum sound and vibration control for the 10th floor gym, which is directly above classrooms.
