Civil Construction Complete on LIRR East Side Access

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the completion of civil construction on East Side Access, an $11 billion project by the State of NY Metropolitan Transportation Authority to connect Long Island Rail Road commuter rail service to a new 350,000-square-foot passenger terminal under Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. AKRF led a consultant team in preparing environmental analyses and documentation for the project in accordance with NEPA requirements. The new connection will double LIRR capacity into Manhattan through a newly activated tunnel under the East River, a new yard in Queens, and significant upgrades to Harold Interlocking, the busiest passenger railroad intersection in North America.
