Planning & Public Policy

AKRF provides consulting services for the review and implementation of public policies for land use and economic development or property compliance and real estate development, most notably environmental analysis and documentation pursuant to local, state, and federal guidelines.

Examples include the new commercial waste zones plan in New York City that aims to reduce truck emissions and noise and improve air quality, and the proposed borough-based municipal jail system to replace Rikers Island and help create a “smaller, safer, and fairer criminal justice system.”

AKRF has also completed several ground-breaking studies for public agencies to properly identify and assess potential health risks from different events. Working with public health experts we have evaluated exposure pathways for lead paint associated with bridge repainting projects, pesticides used to prevent the spread of West Nile Virus, and E. Coli associated with waterfowl activity on our region’s water bodies.
