Promoted Officer Interview with Michael Beattie

Each of our 2023 promoted officers exemplify a deep commitment to professional excellence and leadership with focus, integrity, and authenticity. Get to know Michael Beattie – our Senior Vice President for traffic and transportation services and a talented barista.

What do you like most about working at AKRF? The fully supportive environment. AKRF will support your pursuits if you are willing to put in the work.

What’s your favorite hobby? Practicing my barista skills and drinking a few extra lattes in the process. And if time ever permits, playing basketball.

If you weren’t an engineer, what would you be? Barista/Café Owner

Do you have any hidden talents? They are pretty well hidden – as soon as I find them, I’ll let you know.

Is there a favorite project you’ve worked on? SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, where we utilized modeling software to assess pedestrian flows through the marquee experience center.

Are there any misconceptions people have about your field? People think we either prioritize pedestrians or cars. Really, we’re looking for balance in mobility choices.

What’s a piece of advice you would give someone starting in your field? Take chances, speak up in the meeting. You’re only going to learn by trying and putting yourself out there.
