AKRF’s GIS specialists helped developers find an optimal location on the East River Science Park campus to create an urban production garden that would supply fresh produce and flowers year round to Riverpark, the new Alexandria Center restaurant.
AKRF conducted a solar exposure analysis that calculated the number of hours of solar exposure on representative analysis days in each season across the entire project site in order to determine the optimal location for the proposed farm.
The analysis results were compelling, and the farm was successfully developed and subsequently featured in Edible Manhattan, The New York Times, and other publications.
This study was part of continuing services AKRF has provided for East River Science Park, a major new biotechnology facility in development on an underutilized portion of the Bellevue Hospital Campus.
