CUMC College of Dental Medicine Vanderbilt Clinic

Renovation of the Vanderbilt Clinic’s fifth floor at the Columbia University Medical Center’s College of Dental Medicine provides the institution with much-needed state-of-the-art simulation and clinical care space. AKRF served as acoustical consultant for the new 15,000-square-foot facility with 48 operatories, dedicated teaching spaces, and technology to advance data sciences, precision dental medicine, and precision education. We collaborated with the design team on the HVAC system and various ceiling and flooring materials to address impact/footfall noise, noise build-up within the space, and speech privacy between each operatory station. AKRF evaluated various vendors for raised access flooring panels and absorptive perforated vaulted metal ceiling products, and consulted on the curved “propeller style” workstation dividers after visual inspection of the mock-up installation.
