Manhattan College Higgins Engineering and Science Center

The Patricia and Cornelius J. Higgins ‘62 Engineering and Science Center at Manhattan College in the Bronx opened in 2021. AKRF provided geotechnical, civil, and environmental engineering for the LEED Gold building – the cornerstone of the institution’s facility modernization efforts for collaborative STEM learning and engagement. The 30,000-square-foot building includes laboratories and associated educational space.

Our work included a subsurface exploration of 13 geotechnical borings and three seismic cone penetration tests to determine additional subsurface information (including shear wave velocities) so site-specific seismic studies such as a site-specific liquefaction analysis could be prepared. Our geotechnical engineering report recommended a deep foundation system for the new building.
