New applied sciences university in the middle of the East River
Manhattan College Higgins Engineering and Science Center
The new Higgins Engineering and Science Center under construction on the South Campus of Manhattan College in the Bronx will be the cornerstone of the institution’s facility modernization efforts for collaborative STEM learning and engagement. AKRF provided geotechnical, civil, and environmental engineering for the 30,000-square-foot building with laboratories and associated educational space. Our work included a subsurface exploration of 13 geotechnical borings and three seismic cone penetration tests to determine additional subsurface information (including shear wave velocities) so site-specific seismic studies such as a site-specific liquefaction analysis could be prepared. Our geotechnical engineering report recommended a deep foundation system for the new building.
