The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority owns and operates Memphis International Airport, General DeWitt Spain Airport, and Charles W. Baker Airport in Tennessee. Over two million passengers used Memphis International Airport in 2022, and the airport was the world’s second busiest for cargo according to Airports Council International in 2022.
AKRF serves as an on-call NEPA environmental consultant to the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority for a variety of airport runway and facility projects. Thus far our projects have included environmental assessments and documentation for tree clearing, the Charles W. Baker Airport terminal reconstruction, a terminal renovation at Memphis International Airport, and taxiway and hotspot rehabilitations. Our environmental support helped move forward the $2.5 million construction project to replace the terminal at Charles W. Baker Airport in Millington, Tenn., which was approved in 2023 and will double the square footage of the facility.
