Skipjack Offshore Wind Farm

The planning and permitting of a new 120-megawatt offshore wind farm continues to advance off the coast of Maryland and Delaware. Under development by Ørsted, the Skipjack Wind Farm will deliver enough clean energy to power an estimated 35,000 homes. AKRF is currently supporting the air quality modeling and permitting for the project. We have performed underwater acoustic modeling to evaluate the potential impacts of underwater noise to fish, sea turtles, and marine mammals associated with construction of turbine foundations and vessel noise during cable installation. AKRF also prepared an impact assessment for Atlantic sturgeon, which will be part of the Construction and Operations Plan that will support the state and federal permitting requirements for the wind farm. Offshore construction is planned to start as early as 2021, with the wind farm coming online in 2022.
