Open Space

From parks, plazas, and playgrounds to trails and esplanades, AKRF helps preserve and conserve open space and adapt land and facilities for public recreation. In New York City, AKRF has provided continuous environmental planning and permitting to Hudson River Park since its inception — along with a variety of engineering services — and we have been similarly involved with Brooklyn Bridge Park, Governors Island, and other park and recreation projects.

In the Hudson Valley of New York we specialize in the planning and permitting of trailways, including the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail in Phillipstown, River to Ridge Trail in New Paltz, and Empire State Trail in Onondaga County. AKRF has also contributed to Fahnestock State Park improvements as well as plans to achieve better interconnectivity among Shawangunk-Joppenbergh recreation resources in the Hudson Valley, and we designed Lanier Playground in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of Philadelphia, among other parks and playgrounds in the city.
